Our Services

All Services

  • BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE

Illness doesn't always have a physical cause. Our doctors can help determine the cause of such disorders as separation anxiety and obsessive behavior, and then develop a treatment regimen for the client.

  • BOARDING / PET CAMP

Pets are like our children – we feed, nurture and lavish attention on them. Our highly qualified camp counselors do the same when you can't be there. While you are on vacation, your pets can be too.

We offer three different ways for your dog to attend our camp.  Smaller dogs may camp in a tent (cage) that is similar in size to the crate you may use at home when you leave the house.  Our tents all have grates in them to keep dogs clean.  Any size dog may camp in our RV's (runs), which also have grates on the floors to keep your pet clean.  We also offer VIP Suites for our more pampered guests.  VIP Suites all have custom artwork on the walls and televisions to help our VIP guests feel more at home.  Dogs boarding with us are taken out four times per day.

Playtimes may be scheduled for your dog.  Playtimes is strongly suggested for young, active dogs.  A playtime is 15 minutes of private one-on-one with a counselor who throws a ball or frisbee for lots of fun.  An exercised dog is a happy dog!

Our Feline campers stay in our Kitty Camp.  While some boarding facilities keep cats in the same area as dogs, ours is located in the front of the hospital where they can see birds drawn by our birdfeeders stategically located outside the window on the wall of the hospital.  Our kitty camp is located away from the scary noise of our dog kennel.  VIP Cats have the option of staying in a four level townhouse where the litterbox is hidden away on the lower level.  The camper kitty has the option of staying up high on the top floor or down low where it can hide and not be seen.

Only Caring Hands Pet Hospital cares enough to offer VIP options.

  • DAY CARE

Is your pet unhappy or lonely while you're at work? Give your companion the personal attention he or she deserves throughout the day. We offer the same TLC and playtime offered to our longer-term guests.

  • EMERGENCY AND CRITICAL CARE

In any emergency, seconds count. Our experienced staff is ready to help at our fully stocked and equipped hospital to administer the ABC's of basic life support – Airway, Breathing, Circulation/Cardiac compressions. Emergency care is offered during regular business hours. In addition, we have a fully staffed 24 Hour Emergency Hospital that is located just SW of 56th and Emerson Avenue. Because monitoring around the clock for truly critical pets is very important, our emergency hospital has a doctor and support staff to watch your pet around the clock.Vetsuite_Img_32152

  • FULLY STOCKED PHARMACY

CHPH, like most veterinary hospitals, has an inhouse pharmacy. Routinely prescribed medications are dispensed from our pharmacy, directly to your pet while he/she is here.

For less commonly used medications, they can be called in to a large veterinary pharmacy, Vetcentric (www.vetcentric.com) and it can be arranged to have them delivered to you next day.

For patients  that are reluctant to take medications, please speak with one of our staff members. New ways of administering medication, such as transdermal gels, flavored "chew treats" and flavored liquids are some of the new ways to help your pet take medication more easily.

  • GROOMING AND BATHING

Treat your pet to a luxurious day at our pet spa. Our groomer has that special way with pets that shows that she loves pets. Please come in and meet her. Schedule your pet for a luxurious cleansing bath and groom. Grooming at our spa includes trimming nails, emptying anal glands, ear cleaning and a first brush out. Then the deep cleansing bath and conditioner. The coat is trimmed and shaped. The pet is blown dry and brushed and the final trim is done. The result is a clean smelling, beautifully coiffured pet. Our groomer is  professional, experienced, and gentle.

If scratching is a problem, our medicated baths contain soothing agents that help stop the itching. Baths are an inexpensive way to freshen up a dog's coat. They include a nail trim but no trimming.

Did you know that short-haired dogs that are trimmed do not shed? Your Labrador can be trimmed and shedding stops. Ask us.

  • HOSPICE/EUTHANASIA SERVICES

Saying goodbye to a long-time friend is painful. We work with clients to ensure their pet's comfort and dignity. Euthanasia can be even done in the privacy of your own home with an advance appointment.  Whether at home or in our specially dedicated comfort room, we will gently take your pet through his or her last moments with a gentle voice and comfort from our Caring Hands and yours if you wish to be with your pet.  We encourage owners to be there, but it is your choice.

Services include cremation with return of your pet's cremains through an ethical, trustworthy company, Lasting Friends.  Lasting Friends offers many beautiful urns and simple returns as well.  Cremation may be done through another ethical company, Pet Rest, without return of ashes.  Those pets cremated with Pet Rest are interred in flowere gardens that memorialize all the pets for a given year in countryside Indiana near Fort Wayne.

  • IMMUNIZATION AND WELLNESS CARE

    Immunizations

Caring Hands was the first practice (1997) in the state of Indiana to change to three year proticols for vaccinating adult pets for Distemper on a three-year schedule.  Vaccinations are a necessity for cats, dogs and ferrets.  However, across the country over-vaccinating adult pets (annually) has caused malignant tumors in low numbers of cats and Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia in low numbers of dogs.  These conditions are life-threatening when they occur.  Our proticol is in compliance with the American Association of Feline Practitioners (cats) and the American Animal Hospital Association's (dogs) guidelines for vaccination.  We were in compliance for dogs even before the guidelines were complete because we listened to what experts who were not employed by vaccine companies were saying and followed their recommendations.

    Wellness

Wellness programs are an investment which has rewards for both pets and owners. Our wellness programs are designed specifically for your pet and include: Twice yearly comprehensive physical exam; internal parasite testing; heartworm and flea control; vaccination program; spay and neuter package; and specialized blood and urine tests for all life stages.

  • LASER

Lasers are a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery. Lasers replace scalpels in many procedures, and are useful for a wide range of conditions, such as cyst, tumor, and wart removal, and can even be used in declawing. Laser procedures result in less pain; less bleeding and less swelling. They reduce risk of infection and result in less post-operative discomfort.Vetsuite_Img_32158

  • PAIN MANAGEMENT

Veterinary patients feel pain and discomfort under the same circumstances as people do. We know that recognizing and alleviating pain in animals is the essence of good patient care.  Caring Hands Pet Hospital is proud to announce the addition of a therapy laser to our hospital.  A therapy laser is new to both veterinary medicine and human medicine.  This laser produces a wavelength of light that penetrates tissues without cutting.  It works on the inflamed tissues of arthritis, ligament and tendon injuries, back injuries, post surgery pain and many other painful conditions.  It works without medication or with medications for pain.  It does not require anesthesia or sedation.  X-rays may be needed to determine where the laser needs to be used.  When this treatment was used on some of out staff members' painful knees, fingers or necks they felt improvement within minutes.  Since its arrival in May 2007, clients are reporting noticeable improvement in their pets after the first course of therapy.  For acute injuries there may be a cure.  For chronic conditions such as arthritis we see return to motion that was previously too painful.  For arthritis many times we need to use medication in addition to the laser.

  • DENTAL CARE

Regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining your pet's teeth. We use modern and safe ultrasounic equipment to clean each tooth thoroughly - above and below the gum line. Dental technicians polish teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface more resistant to plaque buildup. Fluoride treatments help strengthen enamel and reduce tooth sensitivity.
